Please take the time to thoughtfully read the specifics below.

External Account Authorizations, especially for Google GMail and/or Google Drive

In principle, all the privacy and usage information under this subheading applies to all Email and Remote Storage accounts a user may choose to have work with the Applications supported by this web site (i.e. JwContacts and JwContactsUD, "the Apps"). For such a few Email and most Remote Storage Services require a user to pre-authorize JwContacts. Google additionally expects published applications making extensive use to undergo a Google verification process, now pending for the Apps, thus much of the following is specific to Google.

During the Google verification periods Google may provide a warning when app users request a Google pre-authorization. Depending on the web browser being used, the warning may suggest a user abort his request. To use either GMail or Google Drive in JwContacts, however, the user will need to continue his request, as permitted by the web browser. Until verifications are complete and warnings would no longer appear, we provide the following to assist you in deciding whether that is what you wish to do.

The Apps may allow the user to store, retrieve, receive, and send backup data of those apps on/from his Gmail and/or Google Drive account alone. The Apps never delete anything on any account. The Apps have no ability to access such accounts held by others nor do they particpate in any manner in whatever folder sharing a user may decide to grant others. Furthermore, the Apps utilize a special, distinctive folder (in the form of JwContacts...) within his account and have no ability to access any data outside that folder.

The Apps acquire no Google data about the user other than the outcome of his authorization(s). If choosing to employ both, a separate authorization is required for GMail and for Google Drive; granting one does not grant the other.

GMail accounts can also be used to send ordinary email using the App's internal emailer. App backup data other than stored documents (or documents composed ad hoc using the App), however, can only be emailed to selected members of the Congregation Body of Elders of which the user is a member. The subject line of all accessible emailed data must begin with the word JwContacts. Exception: A legally-stored Medical Directive or similar document and/or Photograph can be emailed in an emergency to a person (such as a doctor) once the user verifies he has the legal right to send and the recipient the legal right to receive such a document.

To use GMail and/or Google Drive accounts in these described manners, the user must first authorize such use in a web browser not part of the App, once for each device on which the App is installed, allowing the app on that device to obtain and store authorization tokens Google will then furnish the App specific to such use. The Apps never display these credentials, although the user can back them up in encrypted form to which only the specific device creating the backup will have retrieval ability.

The user may at any time revoke his authorization by resetting the App's data, as provided on the App's default opening screen. If the user informs the App (on each of his devices) he has changed association to a different Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, he will need to create a new special folder and the earlier folder will no longer be accessible to the App. If he desires the old folder be deleted, he must perform that manually outside of JwContacts.

The App provides the user means to verify, at any time, the app can use the previously-created folder, thereby proving the authorization tokens' validity are still recognized by Google. If such test fails repeatedly, the user will need to re-authorize the App for such use.
